The photo exhibition and the accompanying illustrated book *Erlebnis unter Tage* are the result of a collaboration between the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for Geology and Mining and the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus National GEOPARK. Over the past few years, photographers Jan Bosch (Geopark WLT) and Roger Lang (LGB RLP) have visited all the visitor mines and show caves in Rhineland-Palatinate and within the Geopark’s area, in some cases several times, with their cameras.
The 288-page illustrated book invites readers to trace the development of mining over time and to immerse themselves in the exciting, yet often dangerous, world of miners. From medieval to modern mining, and from agate to iron, silver, lead, zinc, copper and mercury, right through to limestone, basalt and roofing slate, the spectrum of what is presented there for posterity is vast. Not to mention our show caves, which, through their fascinating underground formations, reveal so much about the geological development of our homeland.
The photo exhibition, featuring a selection of 38 large-format photographs, takes visitors on a journey to explore the underground world and perhaps even follow in the footsteps of our ancestors during an underground adventure.
