For the third time, CAMPUS GALLI is hosting “Camp Life – Experience the Camp!” This weekend, the monastery construction site will once again transform into a vibrant gathering place from the early Middle Ages: living history groups from all over Germany will pitch their tents and bring history to life.
In the early Middle Ages, monasteries were far more than just religious sites—they served as centers of craftsmanship, trade, knowledge, and hospitality. Travelers, merchants, and artisans found shelter and opportunities for exchange here. It is precisely this historical camp life that comes to life at the event when traveling merchants and travelers stop at the monastery construction site.
In and around their camps, the reenactors present authentic artifacts such as furniture, jewelry, weapons and armor, clothing, as well as cooking and everyday utensils. Numerous craft demonstrations offer insight into medieval techniques: brass smithing, bone carving, dyeing, woodwork, textile work, and leatherwork—and this year, bronze casting as well.
Many hands-on activities invite you to get involved and not just watch the crafts, but experience them firsthand. Through direct interaction, the living history reenactors explain their respective cultures and historical periods, conveying a vivid picture of everyday life in the early Middle Ages.
In 2026, you can once again look forward to many groups enriching camp life with exciting performances and activities. Immerse yourself in a bygone world, experience camp life in all its facets—and bring history to life. We look forward to your visit!
