Concerts in the Palace Courtyard: Richard Wagner: Tristan and Isolde

Pocket Opera Opera that is entertaining, gripping, and emotionally moving: The D’Accord soloist ensemble, led by the Tübingen-based violinist Martina Trumpp, has garnered international attention in recent years with its 90-minute opera adaptations. With their Wagner arrangements, the ensemble performed at Richard Wagner’s home, Wahnfried, during the Bayreuth Festival. They gave concerts at Hohenschwangau Castle, which Wagner’s patron King Ludwig II once visited, and appeared at the Brucknerfest in Linz as well as at the Elbphilharmonie. The arrangement of Wagner’s groundbreaking opera “Tristan und Isolde” for six string instruments “delves deep into the musical structures of the work and brings out its individuality,” praises ORF: “In this setting, enigmatic chords become transparent threads of fate facing a test of endurance; dripping passion suddenly reveals itself as genuine heartbreak, and heavily orchestrated opera arias transform into sensitive, intimate song moments.” The CD recording of this version was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award and hailed as a “masterpiece” by the concert and opera magazine concerti. Actress Michaela May, herself a fan of classical music and Wagner and a frequent guest on Bayreuth’s red carpet, will host this extraordinary concert.
