"Don't Get Angry, Monk" at Campus Galli

This weekend at CAMPUS GALLI, everything revolves around games from the Middle Ages and beyond! Games have been a part of human life since time immemorial: whether for entertainment, as a test of skill, or to foster strategic thinking. Even in the early Middle Ages, there were numerous games that enriched everyday life. We’ll show you how people passed the time centuries ago. Try your hand at marbles, nut games, and knuckle games; test your skills at ball games or weapon drills. The workshops also offer hands-on activities: game pieces are made in the woodturning shop, and in the pottery studio you can shape your own clay toys—just as children might have done in the early Middle Ages. The Neuhausen Open-Air Museum brings movement into play with stilt walking and tug-of-war, activities that tested strength even in the Middle Ages. A storyteller will also be on hand, taking young and old alike on a vivid journey back in time. And for those who want to take on more modern challenges, you can try your hand at our very own CAMPUS GALLI board game or put together the famous St. Gallen monastery map as a puzzle. At the market square, you can try out many exciting medieval games—and for everyone who wants to take the fun home with them, there’s a selection of medieval games available for purchase.
