Orchid Field Trip

Join us on an excursion to the Küssaberg orchid meadow near Küßnach and discover the stunning blooms of native orchids. In May, when the orchids are in full bloom, Bettina Bercher and Fredy Forster invite anyone interested to a special orchid excursion in the area around Küssaburg. The excursion offers a unique insight into the species-rich semi-arid grasslands, home to over 25 different orchid species. During the guided tour, participants will learn interesting facts about the local flora, the ecological importance of these valuable habitats, and the ongoing care required to preserve this diversity. A key focus of the association’s work is the maintenance of orchid-rich nutrient-poor grasslands. Between the orchids’ blooming season and the mowing of the areas, non-native plants are removed to protect the native flora. In the fall, wetland habitats are also maintained and nesting boxes are cleaned, while in the winter the primary focus is on clearing brush from the meadows. The excursion is suitable for nature enthusiasts, plant lovers, and anyone who would like to learn more about the protection and promotion of these special habitats.
