The Great Brahms Finale
To conclude the two-year cycle featuring all four symphonies by Johannes Brahms, his probably most cheerful contribution to this genre will resonate this evening: The Second, characterized by pastoral wind sounds and friendly melodies, was composed at the idyllic Wörthersee. In this summer resort, the Hamburg composer also wrote his only violin concerto, which he dedicated to the great violin virtuoso and close friend Joseph Joachim. A work that was once considered "unplayable" and today belongs to the great cornerstones of the romantic violin literature. But no problem for our focus artist this year, María Dueñas, whose impressively virtuosic violin playing is now compared to that of the young Anne-Sophie Mutter. With the fourth and final concert of the Brahms cycle, María Dueñas and the Bamberg Symphony under their chief conductor Jakub Hrůša will celebrate his festive finale this evening.
