Musical Bridges
Abel Selaocoe undoubtedly belongs to the most extraordinary talents of today's music world. Last year, he transformed the cloister of Eberbach into a place of exceptional musical intensity, generating overflowing enthusiasm. The South African cellist lives his music with body and soul: it is rooted in him, flowing through every movement. Time and again, he manages to share his deep musical understanding and expressive power directly. He perceives music as a togetherness and an exchange – both on stage and beyond. In 2022, he founded the Bantu Ensemble, consisting of Alan Keary on electric bass, Fred Thomas on piano, and Dudù Kouate on African percussion, with whom he will perform this year at the lakeside stage of Schloss Vollrads. The program features his own compositions that merge classical music with the sound colors of his South African homeland. With inexhaustible curiosity, Abel Selaocoe explores musical border areas, moving effortlessly through various genres and bridging cultures and epochs.
