The city of Saarburg invites you to the German Mill Day at the "Hackenberger Mühle" Mill Museum.
The German Mill Day brings a nearly forgotten craft back into the spotlight every year on Whit Monday. To raise awareness of the historical significance of milling, the city of Saarburg, together with the German Society for Mill Knowledge and Preservation (DGM) e.V., invites you to an open house.
The Saarburg Mill Museum celebrates this day in the historic “Hackenberger Mühle” located just below the waterfall.
Program
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can expect an exciting program revolving around the technology and history of water power:
· Free guided tours: Expert guided tours of the mill will take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Learn firsthand how the craft used to work and why the profession of miller was once essential.
· New feature in the film room: The new explanatory film will be presented here. It serves as an ideal introduction to the tour and is available in both German and English.
· A quiz for children is available, and the mill model is waiting to be explored.
Experience a technical cultural heritage
Mills were, for centuries, the most complex machines of humanity. At a time when flour is produced industrially, the mill museum preserves this important cultural heritage. Powered by the water of the Leuk, the massive mill wheels set the heavy stones in motion to grind grain. Visitors can view the former milling room, the milling processes, as well as a variety of historical devices and tools in their original condition.
Opening hours on German Mill Day: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
On this special day, admission to the museum is free.
