About 400 million years ago, the Devonian primeval sea rushed through and left its fossil traces here. The Schwindbach disappears like magic into the permeable limestone underground and re-emerges after several hundred meters.
The Celts already appreciated the Altburgtal here in the Schönecker Switzerland and built their Celtic refuge on a steeply sloping dolomite rock.
The nature conservation-protected calcareous semi-arid grassland shows the typical vegetation of the Eifel over a hundred years ago, just as regional, agricultural management has shaped the landscape of the Eifel over centuries. The history of the Eifel forest can be vividly traced in many places.

During a guided hike, the connection between the features of the Schönecker Switzerland is revealingly demonstrated. In about three hours, we will journey through time, from about 400 million years in the Earth's age with the Celts through the centuries to modern times.

Participants: Tour takes place with a maximum of 20 participants
Requirements: The approximately 6 km long hike requires sturdy footwear and surefootedness. The route is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs .
