The 1720s, the heyday of the Baroque era, can also be referred to as golden years. The focal point of our matinee is the composer and violin virtuoso Antonio Vivaldi. His vocal music is characterized by daring recitatives and expressive arias; in instrumental music, he developed the ritornello form, where a recurring theme alternates with solo passages. The impact of this style on Bach, Handel, Telemann, and Zelenka is evident in their trio sonatas and arias. The Italian harpsichordist Chiara Massini and our fermate musicians, with their charmingly changing line-up, certainly have this music in the best hands!
