Among the many artists attracted to Berlin in the 1920s were Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, who created a sort of soundtrack for the era with the "Threepenny Opera." The cheeky, critical, heartfelt songs (presented here in a charming rendition for voice and accordion) often conceal their sophistication behind a façade of coarseness. What unites the other works of the evening is the unmistakable influence of jazz: in the blues of Ravel's violin sonata, in the divertissement for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon by Schulhoff, and in the humorous kitchen party "Revue de Cuisine" by Martinu, which made the composer famous overnight in 1927.
Let yourselves be seduced by classical music and enjoy the live experience with our fermate musicians when it is time again: the stage is set for the Palatinate!
