The jazz pianist and the chamber music quartet – each belongs to the top ranks, together they create a celebrated experience. Against the iconic backdrop of Van Volxem Winery, they combine classical and jazz in their program in a fascinating way.

Israeli pianist Omer Klein is considered one of the most exciting protagonists of contemporary jazz. For his “boundless” music (New York Times), he is applauded by audiences and celebrated by critics. Omer Klein and the Aris Quartet – regarded in the classical scene “as one of the most striking ensembles of the young generation” (ARTE) – met for the first time in 2020. Two years later, they performed pieces arranged and newly composed by Omer Klein for piano and string quartet on stage. It was a fitting premiere: Klein was nominated for the German Jazz Award 2023 for the arrangement of Wayne Shorter's “Oriental Folk Song”.

The program “Shake it!” includes original compositions and arrangements of jazz and classical pieces for string quartet – both in the original and as a basis for jazzy improvisations. As part of our “Weinklang” at Van Volxem, you will experience an impressive example of what can arise from the combination of jazz, tradition, and innovation.
