Choral Music and Poetry by Women: Works by Hensel and Beach meet texts by Kaléko and Domin—a poetic dialogue about nature, longing, and renewal. Free admission—donations welcome At the heart of this special concert program are female composers whose works have rarely been heard in concert for a long time. Choral works by Fanny Hensel and Amy Beach impressively demonstrate how diverse and rich in sound Romantic and late-Romantic choral music composed by women can be. Their music draws on motifs from nature—rustling forests, changing seasons, light, and silence—and combines them with themes such as longing, comfort, and inner renewal. A special dramaturgical concept of the evening is the dialogue between music and literature. Poems by Mascha Kaléko and Hilde Domin are recited between the choral works. Their texts condense human experiences into a few precise images, thus creating a poetic resonance for the music. The words open up new perspectives on the sounds heard—and conversely, the music casts the poems in a new light. The program is presented by the Regiswindiskirche Choir, the Novere women’s ensemble from Heidelberg, and a string quartet.
