Guided tour of the Roman fort

Dr. Christoph Wulfmeier, who has been working in the region for years as the excavation director for the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, will provide insights into the current progress and research questions of the ongoing excavation during this guided tour. In cooperation with the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, the University of Freiburg, and the City of Schramberg. Visible from afar and a landmark of the area is the fort tower of the Waldmössingen Fort, which was rebuilt after 1975. However, the original military camp, including the fort village, was much larger. The Waldmössingen fort site is one of the few that has not been built over and has not disappeared beneath modern development, making it particularly valuable from an archaeological perspective. During the summer break, the Department of Provincial Roman Archaeology at the University of Freiburg is conducting a teaching excavation on the fort grounds in Waldmössingen, as it did last year. On-site supervision of the excavation is provided by Dr. Christoph Wulfmeier from the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, as well as research assistants from the department.
