Here, personal knowledge is put to the test: has the Advent wreath really existed "forever"? Which Christmas custom originates from Catholicism, and which was introduced by Luther? And is the Christmas tree always a fir tree?
During a short walk, botanist Elke Hochgesand (LUGENA Nature and Education) will present the coniferous trees known as "Christmas trees" in the Academic Arboratum. The focus will not only be on their significance as "Christmas trees," but also on their biological peculiarities. In the coffee hall, a sensory journey through well-known and lesser-known traditions and customs surrounding Christmas awaits you, while you warm up with hot punch and enjoy festive cookies.
In the second part of the event, visitors will immerse themselves in the Advent atmosphere in the coffee hall with all their senses - lights, "fir greenery," the scent of oranges, and they will once again be enchanted by the variety of typical Christmas treats.
The event series is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture through the BNE network (Education for Sustainable Development) in Central Hesse. The projects in 2026 are themed "Home and Identity".
