swing-soul-funk-rock-jazz music - a blend of brass arrangements, soul vocals, and funk rhythms
SABB is known for its powerful brass sections, a rhythm section with a tight groove, and two singers whose distinct voices complement each other beautifully.
The Backnang School District Band, or SABB for short, will perform at the Kulturhaus Schwanen in Waiblingen on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 8 p.m. The concert will feature cover songs spanning swing, soul, funk, rock, and jazz. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the event is organized by the Kulturhaus Schwanen.
The name sounds like file folders, bureaucratic channels, and conference rooms. On stage, the opposite happens: SABB stands for powerful horn sections, a rhythm section with a tight groove, and two singers whose distinct voices harmonize beautifully. The Backnang School District Band plays through a repertoire ranging from Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles to James Brown, Chicago, and Frank Sinatra, all the way to Bruno Mars, Jamie Cullum, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Kool & The Gang.
For SABB, the educational connection isn’t a gimmick, but part of the band’s history. The musicians all work or have worked professionally in the education sector for the Backnang School District. They regularly meet with school bands at school band festivals and, together with young musicians, bring the stage to life. Thus, the unwieldy name becomes a loving reminder that music education can groove—and that musical experience is best passed on when it lives, breathes, and sweats.
At Schwanen, this band finds a venue built for the joy of dancing, the power of brass, and shared concert moments. For those who see cover music not as a copy but as an invitation to hear familiar songs anew, this promises an evening with soul in your gut, funk in your legs, and plenty of jazz in your head.
