At the turn of the 20th century, Traben-Trarbach was considered the second largest wine trans-shipment center in Europe after Bordeaux in France. In the second half of the 19th century, the capacity of Traben-Trarbach's wine cellars was expanded more than in any other Moselle community, and large parts of the town center were covered with cellars. Today, the Traben-Trarbach Underworld with more than 30 cellars invites visitors to an exciting journey of discovery through the history of historic viticulture and old cellar technology as well as to wine tastings and culinary delights within historic walls.
