Chamber Concert "Against Oblivion"

The chamber choir musica capricciosa has designed a special concert program for the Lower Austria State Exhibition, which references the location of the exhibition, the Lower Austria Clinic in Mauer, which was misused by the Nazis as an euthanasia facility.

The focus will be on works by composers from the first half of the 20th century, composers who had to flee from the Nazis as Jews, as well as compositions that were branded as "degenerate" by the Nazis. Forgotten works, famous works, works that tell stories of brave individuals in a terrible time, highlighting the importance of art and freedom for art.

Additionally, Cornelius Obonya will read unpublished excerpts from an interview between Klaus Mann and Richard Strauss. Cornelius Obonya is one of the most significant contemporary Austrian actors, who has portrayed "Jedermann" four times at the Salzburg Festival.

Among the works are musically demanding pieces by Ernst Krenek, Kurt Weill, Ernst Toch, Hanns Eisler, and Felicitas Kuckuck, as well as so-called "light music," which does not reveal that its protagonists soon faced professional bans or had to emigrate.
