With “Conversations in Jazz,” guitarist, composer, and arranger Michael Sagmeister presents a trio that promises nothing less than a musical summit meeting: virtuosity, interaction, and a shared breath in which jazz becomes a lively dialogue.

At the center is Sagmeister's new project “Sonic Dialogue” – a sound cosmos that carries his signature as a world-class guitarist: clear lines, harmonic depth, and rhythmic finesse. For over four decades, Sagmeister has shaped the international jazz scene, working with icons like Pat Martino, Johnny Griffin, or Lyle Mays/Pat Metheny Group, and was awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize in 2019. Both audience and critics agree: Sagmeister is one of the unmistakable voices of his instrument, celebrated as one of the most significant jazz and fusion guitarists of our time.

By his side are two musicians who ideally complement his musical vision – while also adding their own accents:

Michael Ehret (drums) is regarded as one of the outstanding European jazz drummers. His enormous stylistic range – from jazz and fusion to funk and traditional swing – has taken him to international festival stages from China to Finland. As a long-time companion of greats like Klaus Göbel or the Barrelhouse Jazz Band and as a partner of musicians like Jason Marsalis, Scott Hamilton, or Red Holloway, Ehret embodies that mix of precision, energy, and musical openness that brings a modern jazz trio to life.

Dirk Kunz (double bass and electric bass) is considered one of the most exciting discoveries of the younger jazz scene. His playing, as warm as it is dynamic, characterized by emotional depth and pronounced interaction, made him an immediate ideal fit for Sagmeister's trio. With early experiences from his studies, as a concert bassist of the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra and the European Masterclass Big Band, and numerous CD productions with various artists from different genres and countries, Kunz developed his uniquely energetic, interactive, and empathetic style. Over the years, he has collaborated with jazz greats such as Ack van Rooyen, Anette von Eichel, and Daniel Snyder. With his own projects, he now tours from Europe to Australia, captivating audiences with his unrestrained joy of playing and his compelling stage presence.

“Conversations in Jazz” therefore describes far more than a concert title: it is the program of a musical encounter on equal footing – spontaneous, powerful, virtuosic, and full of subtle nuances. Sagmeister, Ehret, and Kunz let jazz emerge in the moment: as an open conversation, as mutual inspiration, as a living art form.
