They could lead a quiet life on their ship, but every year they must deliver a portion of their loot, the boarding fee, to a female pirate known as the Flying Dutchwoman. However, they do not make any loot. As punishment, they are to row on the Flying Dutchwoman's ship for a year. This rowing punishment would also affect the ship's gorilla, the writer Professor Lodengrün. He would then, of course, be unable to write the books that millions of reader rats are eagerly waiting for. In the ship's hold lives Alex, the pirate rat. Together with Professor Lodengrün and the seagull Gabriele, he now develops a plan to avert the impending disaster. They learn from the giant octopus Quartz, who lives on the island of a thousand holes, about a forbidden song. This song reveals the secret and the true origin of the Flying Dutchwoman. Will they succeed in putting an end to the female pirate's reign once and for all and finally have peace on the ship?
