Light Flood in Dürnstein

In the Wachau, in Dürnstein, the tradition is associated with the summer solstice. Hundreds of burning lights are released onto the Danube, creating a mystical and romantic atmosphere together with romantic illuminations around Dürnstein Castle and illuminated buildings. When the sun disappears from the horizon on June 27th, this noticeably magical mood envelops Dürnstein.

Guests and locals gather at the Danube embankment to set hundreds of lights into the river. On small wooden boards, the wax-filled eggshells drift downstream along the S-shaped curve between Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein. They bravely withstand the gentle waves and trace their sparkling path across the water.

The event is accompanied by an exclusive gala dinner in the historic setting of the Schloss Hotel Dürnstein. Enjoy the view from the castle restaurant high above the Danube, along with a fine 4-course menu.
