Their annual September guest performance on Lake Constance is a fixture on their tour calendar. The Saxofous were formed in France as a workshop ensemble and celebrated their first successes at the “Fête de la Musique” in Montpellier. Since then, they have performed in concert halls, construction sites, and castle ruins, accompanied cabaret evenings, or joined in street festivals. The Saxofous play free improvisations and South African rhythms; their repertoire ranges from Baroque to bebop, from Duke Ellington to the Beatles. Improvisation and composition blend seamlessly. Without ever seeming arbitrary, the carefree mix of genres and moods ensures a constant stream of surprises. Freiburg-based musician Mike Schweizer crafts all the arrangements specifically for the Saxofous and leads the band with his characteristic humor. “We thrive on fun,” explains the bandleader, “and we place great value on spontaneity.” Mike Schweizer is not only a versatile and distinctive voice on the soprano and tenor saxophone, but also a unique musician and teacher who has shaped countless musicians in southern Germany.
