The Philharmonic Choir, together with the Lutherkantorei Bad Harzburg, Judith Wiesebrock, Dustin Drosdziok, Timothy Sharp, and the Karlsruhe Chamber Philharmonic, will perform this extraordinary work by G. F. Handel.
The work Alexander’s Feast (HWV 75) by George Frideric Handel was composed in London in 1736 and is based on the ode “Alexander’s Feast” by the English poet John Dryden. In it, Handel set to music the story of a banquet in honor of Alexander the Great, during which a musician influences the ruler’s emotions through his art. The work premiered to great acclaim and is considered one of Handel’s most significant English oratorios.
