**Descartes A Kant**
With equal parts punk, metal, pop, shoegaze, and cabaret, the critically acclaimed underground sextet Descartes a Kant (Guadalajara, Mexico) has made a name for itself as a celestial, unpredictable, and theatrical live attraction. So much so that even the Wall Street Journal noted that "attempting to describe their music only does it a disservice. It is loud, cheeky, incredibly imaginative, sophisticated, witty, and wild; as if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were led by Albert Ayler and conducted by Frank Zappa." They are considered one of the leading forces in the vibrant, ever-evolving Mexican experimental underground scene and are now ready for greater international recognition.
Led by strong female figures, their first two releases, *Paper Dolls* (an intense and bipolar hardcore album with short songs, an ode to multiple personalities) and *Il Visore Lunatique* (a homage to psychiatric disorders ranging from hip-hop to a bizarre Broadway-style musical), captivated both club and festival audiences worldwide – including in Mexico, the USA, Russia, Brazil, and more – sharing the stage with The Melvins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth, Explosions in the Sky, and Slayer.
Descartes a Kant returns in 2023 with a new studio album, *After Destruction*. The release is scheduled for September 29 in all formats; this conceptual work weaves a narrative arc exploring the cycles of existential creation and destruction. *After Destruction* portrays psychological discomfort in a compulsively hyper-communicative yet emotionally isolated society – with retro-futuristic aesthetics, destructive guitars, synthesizers, and soulful melodies.
As a satire on contemporary emotional consumerism, the band integrates an automaton figure into their lineup: The DAK, an innovative machine for repairing emotional damage, which appears both on the album and live in interludes. Restoring your life after a catastrophe? Turning your pain into a work of art has never been easier.
The first single, the title track of the album, was released on July 27 across all platforms, along with the corresponding music video directed by Gamaliel de Santiago and choreographed by Mauricio Rico. A second single, "A Catastrophe," was released on August 31, accompanied by a lyric video animated by Nespy5euro.
**Modula Nation**
Modula Nation is a distinctive fusion of experimental, psychedelic space rock, combined with heavy industrial riffs, complex rhythms, and rich grooves. The group was founded in Graz and is considered one of the most promising rock bands in the Austrian underground scene.
The progressive rock quartet from Graz delivers pulsating space rock odysseys that take the audience on a psychedelic journey through various musical worlds. Modula Nation had the honor of sharing the stage with legendary artists such as Molotov, Tito & Tarantula, Mother's Cake, KMFDM, and Skinny Puppy.
The project emerged from earlier musical formations of singer and multi-instrumentalist Heinz Wallner and his longtime companion and bassist Ricardo Paz. Their friendship and shared love for a wide range of musical genres, combined with nights of jam sessions full of brainstorming, helped develop the band's unique sound.
Other band members who complete Modula Nation's musical vision are Philipp Pluhar on drums and electronics, and Markus Steinrück on guitar. The recording and production phase of Modula Nation's long-awaited debut album titled *THE RIFT* is finally complete. The album will be released in 2026 via Tonzonen Records (Germany). Below are more details about the upcoming album.
