For over three decades, Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt has explored the diverse aspects of Celtic music, a unique symbiosis of folklore, world music, and pop. Seemingly effortlessly, she combines instrumental and vocal perfection with emotions to create a soundscape that enchants listeners. The passionate globetrotter will present herself on a European tour in spring 2027. From March 3 to 23, the celebrated performer will also come to Germany and Austria. The tour schedule includes concerts in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover, Bremen, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Zwickau, Leipzig, Berlin, Vienna, Munich, and Nuremberg.
The upcoming tour will focus on her defining album "The Mask and The Mirror," as well as other fan favorites. Loreena McKennitt will be accompanied on this concert journey by five of her long-time companions: Caroline Lavelle (cello), Brian Hughes (guitar), Hugh Marsh (violin), Dudley Phillips (bass), and Robert Brian (drums). In the first part of the evening, she will present her most popular songs, followed by "The Mask and The Mirror" in the original sequence of the album released in 1994.
Loreena McKennitt explains that with "The Mask and The Mirror," she followed "paths of inspiration" and that the album examines "essential human questions" regarding the existence of God, religion, and spirituality. "What has been revealed and what has remained hidden, what was the mask and what was the mirror? We are excited to return to Europe for another chapter, and we can hardly wait to see everyone again and share our music."
Her celebrated performances consist of music and storytelling inspired by Loreena McKennitt's exotic exploration of Celtic history. For instance, songs are intertwined with mystical Irish poems by Yeats and Keats, as well as texts from classical writers like Shakespeare and Tennyson. Intimacy woven with personal, inspiring narratives characterizes Loreena McKennitt's concerts. Her trademarks remain her crystal-clear soprano voice and her versatility as an instrumentalist on harp, piano, and bandoneon.
Loreena McKennitt has sold over 14 million albums worldwide, more than 1.6 million of those in Germany. An astonishing triumph of musical poetry. Her recordings have achieved gold, platinum, and multi-platinum status in 15 countries across four continents. She has been nominated for a Grammy twice and has won two Canadian Juno Awards as well as the Billboard International Achievement Award.
As a musical ambassador, she has represented Canada around the world, composed film scores, and performed at countless significant festivals. In 1985, she produced her first album with her savings and founded her own record label. As one of the few truly independent artists, she has since made all decisions regarding song selection, production, design, and distribution of her material on her own.
