Isaawaahsiin – in Afro-Austrian "It's Madness" – is the debut program of young stand-up comedian Marvin Tare, who aims to reach an audience that feels somewhat disconnected from the existing cabaret scene. He is the son of Nigerian-Austrian reggae, soul, and blues musician Sam Brisbe, who is well-known in the Vienna music scene and showed him early on that art can be an option in life. His mother, a social worker from the Ennstal region, has inspired him from the very beginning. With *Isaawaahsiin!: in Afro-Austrian "It's Madness," he moved from Styria to Lower Austria and finally to Salzburg (city and state) at a young age, before eventually settling in Vienna. These experiences are reflected in his art: Isaawaahsiin stands at the intersection of stand-up, cabaret, and ethnocomedy. Marvin Tare guides his audience through multifaceted experiences – between African and European roots, masculinity and femininity, urban and rural life, as well as many other perceived opposites. It often remains unclear whether one is experiencing classic cabaret, modern stand-up elements, or culture clash comedy. If one were to describe his program musically, it would be a mix of classical composition, urban hip-hop, African beats, and Austrian folk music. With wordplay, pointed punchlines, interactive crowd work, and musical interludes, Isaawaahsiin elicits laughter, provokes thought, and perhaps even leaves the audience with a catchy tune. The challenges faced by people with a migration background – from finding housing to moving logistics to job searching – are processed by Marvin Tare in a humorous program that takes the audience into the colorful shades between his realities. Isaawaahsiin is an introspective program that invites the audience into his world and impressively captures the everyday madness in its grand finale.
