The bagpipe has hardly made an appearance in jazz since Rufus Harley's "Bagpipe Blues" in the 1960s. Curtain up for Erwan Keravec, a master of the Breton "Cornemuses," who has been making waves in the French music scene for nearly twenty years, not only with his "Urban Pipes." Whether performing solo in a museum, in duos with Mats Gustafsson or Hamid Drake in a club, or in ensembles with the music of Terry Riley or Philip Glass in concert halls, he receives widespread acclaim. For example, Jazz Magazine states: "He plays music of strict violence, simultaneously grand, fundamentally modern, and often radical, yet never cut off from its roots." In Saalfelden, the 52-year-old will be experienced for the first time, and right away in collaboration with American trumpeter Rob Mazurek and Austrian drum internationalist Lukas König.
