When Shake Stew took the stage for the opening concert of the Jazz Festival Saalfelden in 2016, no one could have guessed what an extraordinary journey would begin here. Ten years later, this unusually composed septet has developed into one of the most influential formations in the European jazz scene. ZEIT called them "Austria's jazz band of the moment," the NDR early on declared them a "cult band," and their international status was definitively confirmed with the Amadeus Austrian Music Award 2023 and the German Jazz Award 2021.

2026 now marks their 10th anniversary. And it wouldn't be Shake Stew if they didn't celebrate this occasion with a musical spectacle: "The Big Shake – A Saalfelden Homecoming" is the title of a specially assembled collaboration between Bürgermusik and Eisenbahnermusi, which will shake the heart of Saalfelden with the music of Shake Stew.

The event starts at the Rathausplatz, from where the 70-member formation will march together with the band to the Congress. After another musical interlude, they will head directly to the grand finale in the Stadtpark: There, Shake Stew will perform on stage in their usual setup, with the musicians from the two Saalfelden ensembles performing right in front of them. The band will conclude the event with selected pieces from their current double album TEN ONE TWO.
