Gestalt & Geste

The focus of Claudia Tebben's artistic work is on canvas painting with an emphasis on informal landscape references. Haptic roughness, grown from the geology of the Ruhr area's landscape, allows viewers to experience notions of nature and landscape through the painting and to discover the unknown behind the familiar. Expansive landscapes, which only experience a natural boundary at the edges of the canvas, are complemented by her sculptural works, which seem to emerge as beings from her pictorial worlds. By breaking free from the two-dimensionality of painting, they create an immediate view of objects that resemble exposed archaeological artifacts.
