Guided Tour with Hike to the Burial Mound Starting at Osianderplatz
The summer solstice falls at the end of June—a day that may also have held significance for the Celts. To mark the occasion, museum staff member Peter Graßmann is offering a guided tour on Sunday, June 21, to the largest Celtic burial mound in Central Europe, the Magdalenenberg in Villingen. After a brief welcome in front of the Franciscan Museum, the group will set off on the approximately 35-minute hike to the mound. There, participants will learn more about the “prince” who was buried here, what treasures may once have been in his grave, and why the mound was later considered a gathering place for witches. The group will meet on Sunday, June 21, at 6 p.m. in front of the Franciscan Museum on Osianderplatz.
