With *CAVEMAN*, American writer Rob Becker has created the most successful one-man show in Broadway history. Following huge success in the U.S., this modern caveman has taken stages around the world by storm and has been delighting a wide audience for years. In Germany, this cult comedy can be seen in a translation by Kristian Bader and directed by Esther Schweins. The play is aimed at anyone who is in a relationship, has been in one, or is thinking about it. With plenty of humor and a wink, CAVEMAN offers a unique perspective on the coexistence of men and women. The story centers on Tom, who is kicked out by his wife after an argument. In the so-called “magic underwear circle,” he encounters his Stone Age ancestor, who explains to him the supposedly timeless truth of human evolution: men are hunters, women are gatherers. This realization leads Tom to view gender relations from a new perspective. With dry humor and a strong urge to share his thoughts, Tom proceeds to analyze the enigmatic world of the gatherers—with their girlfriends, shopping sprees, and relationship talks. At the same time, he also scrutinizes the peculiarities of the hunters, explaining, for instance, why men constantly channel-surf while watching TV or why shared silence can indeed be considered successful communication. The result is an evening that is as incisive as it is entertaining, exploring misunderstandings, differences, and commonalities between the sexes.
