The history of the rolling mill and its significance for the Wisserland
Mining and iron smelting shaped the Wisserland for centuries.
The approximately 2-hour tour allows us to dive into the era of the mining industry. With the construction of the tinplate rolling mill, the industrialization of Wissen took off. The number of "rollers" increased from 300 to 3000 employees.
Each day, 90 company buses arrived from the Westerwald to the Sieg. Workers' settlements, "director villas," and a football stadium still testify to what was once the largest and most modern tinplate rolling mill in Europe. The dark times in the history of the "WORK" from 1940 to 1945 are also illuminated.
Where rolls once roared, the smell of iron and grease filled the air, and during the times of the Alfredhut and the hot rolling mill, the air shimmered with heat, today lies the "kulturWERKwissen".
