Concert Marking the 100th Anniversary of Hermann Suter's Death

Classical Concert, Bridge Service, City Tour, Exhibition Hermann Suter (1870–1926) was one of the most important Swiss composers of his time. He spent formative years of his childhood and youth in Kaiserstuhl and Laufenburg. His father was the organist at St. Johann Church there. Suter is best known here as the composer of the “Laufenburg Song,” but he also wrote numerous chamber music, symphonic, and sacred works. Suter’s music lives on: To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, his compositions will be performed. They will be performed, so to speak, in dialogue with tone poems by a contemporary composer: Massimiliano Matesic. Despite the century-long gap, Matesic feels a strong connection to Suter’s music through his own life and work in Kaiserstuhl.  Matesic will also be the pianist at the concert. Other performers include: Daria Zappa (violin), Anna Tyka Nyffenegger (cello), and Tino Brütsch, tenor. **Accompanying Program:** **Sunday, July 5, 2026** 10 a.m.: Protestant Bridge Service for the Suter Anniversary: “Music That Builds Bridges.” Followed by a reception. **11:30 a.m.:** Themed city tour dedicated to Hermann Suter, free of charge, no registration required.
