Art from a Pen

The St. Blasien District Museum is presenting the special exhibition “Art from a Pen—From Antiquity to Manga.” This exhibition combines the millennia-old tradition of classical sculpture with the modern aesthetics of manga. The exhibition at the District Museum brings together two artistic traditions: classical sculpture, which dates back thousands of years, and the contemporary visual language of manga. Both styles strive to capture the essence, beauty, and emotions of the human form. Artist Shufan Liu, a student at St. Blasien College, created most of the works in this exhibition using a single-color ballpoint pen. He demonstrates how this simple tool opens up unlimited creative possibilities for a wide variety of subjects. The exhibition was created in collaboration with the art workshop at Kolleg St. Blasien, led by Ms. Sahrai, who offers workshops to both students at the school and those from outside.
