A Guided Tour with Eberhard Steinhilber Kaltenstein Castle—A Landmark with an Eventful History Kaltenstein Castle is the defining landmark of Vaihingen an der Enz. It is not only known as a registered landmark but also graced the town’s historic emergency currency. Over the centuries, the castle has had a significant influence on Vaihingen’s development—far beyond its function as a building. Its eventful history is reflected in its diverse uses. Different eras have left their mark, which can still be seen today in the various parts of the building. A tour offers fascinating insights into these changes and brings the castle’s evolution over time vividly to life. Currently, the castle is once again facing a transformation: Following the CJD’s move out and a prolonged period of vacancy, a conversion into a hotel is planned. What exactly this entails and what opportunities it presents can be discovered during Open Monument Day. A special highlight is the pulpit—a vantage point offering an impressive view of the city. From here, you can take in a stunning panorama of Vaihingen’s development, the Garden Show grounds, and the charming Enz River landscape. Due to the upcoming construction work, this guided tour will focus on the area around Kaltenstein Castle and will not include the interior rooms or the courtyard.
