Under the motto "Networks: Monuments & Infrastructure," this year's Day of Open Monuments will take place on September 13.
The German Foundation for Monument Protection coordinates the Day of Open Monuments nationwide each year to draw attention to monument preservation in Germany and the importance of monument protection. It is the largest cultural event in Germany and has been held annually on the second Sunday in September since 1993. Locally, the day is shaped by countless organizers, monument owners, associations, and initiatives, as well as full-time monument conservators, and is under the patronage of the Federal President.
The organizer describes this year's motto as follows: "Networks require infrastructure – otherwise they would not be connected. Nodes and their connections form this infrastructure. Built of stone, concrete, or metal, people have allowed this infrastructure to emerge and grow – making it monuments that have always influenced our daily paths. Historical constructions that not only fulfill their ideal purpose, granting us identity and extraordinary aesthetics, but should also be preserved and maintained for practical reasons. On the Day of Open Monuments 2026, we want to show you together how your monuments support our networks."
