Hans Albers was more than the cliché of the singing sailor: As the greatest male Ufa star, he stands in a league with Marlene Dietrich and the Comedian Harmonists. His singing style inspired Udo Lindenberg, Rio Reiser, and Herbert Grönemeyer. His authentic, direct acting style shaped German sound film like no other. His role in the film of the Third Reich was controversial, equally used and hated by “Dr. Goehhhbels,” as the propaganda minister was mockingly called by Albers. A cannonball flight through a life with light and shadow, featuring well-known songs like “Komm auf die Schaukel, Luise,” “Hoppla, jetzt komm ich,” or “La Paloma.” But Dirk Wittun and Wolfgang Völkl also fish for lesser-known musical pearls from the Albers' seabed.
