Free guided tour of the historic circular kiln in Zell am Harmersbach

Every first Sunday of the month, there is a free guided tour for individuals at the Rundofen. During the tour, you’ll learn interesting details about its history. On the first Sunday of the month, the Zell am Harmersbach Culture and City Marketing Association once again invites you to a free guided tour of the historic circular kiln at the Obere Fabrik. The tour begins at 2:30 p.m.; no registration is required. The monumental circular kiln is considered a technical masterpiece of industrial history and is the only porcelain kiln of this size in all of Germany. From 1839 to 1942, high-quality porcelain was fired here on three levels at temperatures of up to 1,500 degrees Celsius. During the approximately one-hour guided tour, visitors will learn fascinating details about the ingenious technology of the circular kiln, the history of porcelain production in Zell, and the work of Josef Anton Burger, the founder of Zell’s porcelain tradition. Today, the circular kiln is one of the region’s most significant industrial monuments; it has been largely preserved in its original state and is fully accessible to visitors. This imposing structure, with an outer diameter of over ten meters, stands as a testament to the craftsmanship and technical expertise of the 19th century. Regular guided tours take place on the first Sunday of every month and are open to interested individual visitors. Admission is free.
