If one looks from Zülpich in the direction of Bürvenich, one notices the striking mountain ranges on the northern edge of the Eifel. They are composed of rock layers from the Upper Muschelkalk of the Middle Triassic period, 240 million years ago. In them, inconspicuous fossils can be found, from which experts can draw conclusions about the environment of that time. Furthermore, it can be observed how the barren rock surfaces of the quarry gradually weather and become covered by nature.
