The Farm Saw Experience: Tour and Demonstration of the Gallus Saw

Join a free guided tour from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to experience the fully operational farm saw at the Gallus Farm. Located at the entrance to the Zuwälder Valley in Oberharmersbach is the fully operational Gallus Saw. Farm owner Manfred Lehmann or forester Hans Lehmann use it, powered by water, to turn sturdy Black Forest fir trees into planks and beams. It’s an impressive undertaking that you can witness during a one-hour guided tour. No registration required! The wooden gate and the drive mechanism date back to 1930. In 2015, the Gallus Sawmill was equipped with a new inlet channel and a new waterwheel made of steel and wood, and—thanks to several informational panels—was transformed into a small museum. This means that visitors can tour the site even outside of the scheduled demonstrations. Tip: Just a few minutes’ walk from the sawmill, beautifully nestled in nature, lies the Lourdes Grotto (War Memorial Grotto), built of barite. []()
