No Roman emperor traveled his empire as extensively as Hadrian. In over two decades of his reign, he personally inspected borders, cities, and military camps – from Hadrian's Wall in Britain to the legion camps on the Rhine and Danube. These journeys were not imperial leisure but a political program: they shaped the image of the Limes as a border.
