Guided Hike Through the Mountain Farms in Late Summer

For history enthusiasts: a hike through beautiful natural surroundings to the former high-altitude farms and glassworks in Nordrach. Meeting point: Kolonie Chapel parking lot. No registration required. The Historical Society invites you to a guided hike through the area of the former mountain farms and glassworks in Nordrach. Meeting point: 1:30 p.m. at the Kapelle Kolonie parking lot. Under the leadership of Thomas Laifer, volunteers and members of the Nordrach Historical Society have spent the last few years researching and documenting the history of the individual mountain farms and uncovering the remaining foundation walls. They have created a network of trails totaling 22 km in length, connecting a total of eleven farmstead sites and the former glassworks. At the building sites, informational signs provide details about life there in past centuries. Thomas Laifer will give a talk on the fascinating history of the mountain farms right on site. How did the mountain farms come into being, and who ran them back then? Where exactly were they located? What remains of them today? How did people live there? Who still knows anything today about glass production in the glassworks back then? How was glass made? How did the glassworkers live? The route (8 km, 350 meters of elevation gain) leads through a particularly beautiful and varied landscape: Kapelle Kolonie parking lot – Nagelsbach – Stone Signposts – Schäfersfeldhof – Altglashütten – Kapelle Kolonie parking lot.
