Tokarczuk – Works by the Polish Nobel Prize-winning author of literature

**The perfect way to prepare for Olga Tokarczuk’s visit to Bad Mergentheim!** On October 8, Olga Tokarczuk will appear at the *43rd Baden-Württemberg Literature Days*. To mark the occasion, the VHS is offering a two-part introduction to her work, focusing on the novel *Empusion* (2022), the collection of essays and speeches *Exercises in Strangeness* (2020), and the short story collection *The Green Children* (2020). In her work, Tokarczuk combines philosophical reflection, myths, psychology, and social criticism. In *Empusion*, she draws on motifs from classical spa literature and weaves them together with questions about gender roles, illness, nature, and power. In her essays and speeches, she offers insight into her writing process and reflects on literature, responsibility, and the experience of being different in a globalized world. The collection of short stories brings together fantastical texts in which reality and imagination merge. Reading the three books (all available in stores) is recommended but not required for participation.
