TOURDATA
Furth 31, 4076 St. Marienkirchen an der Polsenz
The charming orchard landscape in the Fruit Hill Country invites us to enjoy delightful hikes. In spring, we are enchanted by the magical blossoms of the many fruit trees, and in summer and autumn, by the variety of fruits. The fruit serves as the basis for numerous specialties from the nature park, such as fine spirits, jams, juices, cider, and more. Fruit cultivation and cider production hold great importance in the nature park communities; Scharten is known for its cherries, while St. Marienkirchen is regarded as the cider capital of Upper Austria.
Our tour takes us to traditional orchards with old varieties like the "Schartner Rain Cherry" or the "Weberbartl Apple." Here, we understand how much work maintaining old fruit tree stocks means for farmers and the high ecological value that orchards hold (up to 5,000 animal and plant species). We will get to know wild herbs from the orchard, collect them, and process them into healthy and tasty delicacies, such as herbal pralines, (vegan) spreads, and much more.
The conclusion and highlight is a communal brunch under the fruit trees. Depending on the season, we will enjoy regional cherries, apricots, or plums, but definitely with coffee and cake, nature park fruit juices, and a glass of fresh Schartner or Samareiner cider.
