Once, masters forbade their journeymen and apprentices from using artificial light (candles, oil lamps). This restriction lasted well into autumn, until twilight set in so early that it simply became unavoidable. On "Liachtbratl Monday," artificial light was used again. Since then, we have celebrated Liachtbratl on the first Monday after "Michaeli" (September 29). The Liachtbratl was once a simple roast that the master gifted to his staff as a thank you for saving on lighting. Today, it is associated with serving pork roast with dumplings. Liachtbratl Monday is celebrated by some alpine huts on the Postalm with delicious roasts as well as music and dance.
