Dachstein Höhlenwelt, Winkl 34, 4831 Obertraun
Julian Pixel Schmiederer listens to the hidden. With fine microphones, he brings the inaudible to the surface, collecting fleeting sounds and condensing them into a floating sound carpet that allows the space to breathe. From this multi-layered floating, the piano of Maki Namekawa rises: music by Philip Glass, pulsating and clear, like light in ice. A solo clarinet piece by Christian Kapun cuts through the sound space – breathing, searching, telling – and merges with the installation into a quietly glowing whole.
Maki Namekawa regularly performs on international stages such as the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Barbican Center and Cadogan Hall in London, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna, Salzburg Festival, Klangspuren Schwaz, Ars Electronica in Linz, Musik-Biennale in Berlin, Rheingau Music Festival, Eclat Festival in Stuttgart, and the Piano Festival Ruhr.
Julian Pixel Schmiederer works as an artist and director at the intersection of sound, installation, and film. His works have been featured at the Localize Festival 2024 in Potsdam, the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, and as part of the European Capital of Culture 2024.
Christian Kapun, director of the regional music schools in Bad Goisern and Bad Ischl, has performed with Hans Söllner, Klangforum Wien, Jon Sass, Corinne West, Blondie Chaplin, Thierry Zaboitzeff, Perfect, Luciano, and many others. He has produced music and compositions for theater and radio plays.
