Hardly anyone knows that the first potatoes in the whole country were grown in Seitenstetten! 400 years ago, Abbot Kaspar von Seitenstetten wrote an original book about these first potatoes, sweet potato and Jerusalem artichoke, which he had planted as a pioneer in the monastery garden of Seitenstetten Abbey and studied scientifically. He even published recipes for potato salad or potato pie in it as early as 1621.
