Maypole raising in Wiener Neustadt

The tradition of raising the Maypole dates back a long way and was first documented in writing in the 13th century. This beautiful custom is also continued in the city of Wiener Neustadt – on April 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM in the main square.
Typically, the Maypole is a tall spruce tree, with its lower branches removed, leaving only the crown of the tree, which is then festively decorated. Our Maypole will be erected by the "Einigkeit" Zillingdorf youth association. The Zillingdorf-Eggendorf music association will provide musical accompaniment. After the strenuous and somewhat dangerous work, both the erectors and visitors can look forward to the prominently visible Maypole! Come and see!
