Moving of the Glöckler

Through the ringing of the bells, the "Glöckner" drives away evil spirits from the valleys, forests, and their homes, and it is said that the more men participate in this procession, the more luck the neighborhood can expect in the coming year.

The parades take place on the evening of January 5th; during this time, white figures with ringing cowbell belts and magnificent colorful light caps on their heads pass by numerous spectators.

Here you can admire the light caps in the various districts of Bad Goisern:

The Glöckler Cap

The Glöckler caps are handmade and crafted with intricate detail by their wearers. The cap consists of a wooden frame with thin rods, which is covered with black construction paper. In the past, cardboard was used instead of construction paper, as evidenced by the oldest Glöckler caps from 1906.

Motifs are either cut out or punched from this covering and backed with colorful paper. The edges are usually adorned with white paper fringes (made from tissue paper).
