Robert Oppenheimer is entrusted with leading the Manhattan Project in 1942, tasked with making nuclear fission militarily usable. With a disparate yet equally brilliant team of researchers, consisting of Hungarian Jews who fled from the Nazis, he gets to work. Would such a bomb end the world war? The new play by LEHMAN BROTHERS author Stefano Massini is based on true events and sharpens the various interests behind the construction of the first atomic bomb into an unstoppable chain reaction. The text multifacetedly narrates scientific ambition and human doubts, causes and effects.

In the context of today's political conditions, Stefan Bachmann's first production as director of the BURG is an urgent engagement with questions of progress and responsibility.
